Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park
You will meet your safari guide at your hotel of stay in Kigali at around 8 am, and drive north of Rwanda for about 2 and a half hours until you reach the southern gate of the park. You will be welcomed by the pure air of the park. Connect to check in to your lodge and freshen up, have lunch.
After lunch, set out for an afternoon game drive which gives you the opportunity to view the wildlife of Akagera that is the lions, rhinos, giraffes, elephants and also the several different antelope species. You will spend a maximum of 5 hours on this drive before you set out back to your accommodation before dinner. Have dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge for Mid-range.
Day 2: Morning Game drive and Ihema Boat Cruise
This day gives you a second chance to look out for the animals you may have not been able to see the previous evening in the park. After breakfast, meet your driver guide and be at the starting point by 9am to enjoy the drive in the several trails of the park. You will meet the early raisers and hunters looking for their day’s meal. Have lunch and connect for the boat trip on Lake Ihema. This boat trip lasts 1 hour with a maximum of 11 people on board. You will get to see more of the park on the lake like the aquatic animals like the crocodiles, hippopotami enjoying the waters and the several birds like the African fish eagle and cattle egret.
Find your way back to your accommodation with your driver guide and spend the evening at leisure as you await the last dinner in the park as night before.
Day 3: Cultural tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Wake up to a very long but eventful day. Have breakfast and connect to have the cultural experience offered by the park, get to interact with the local community around the park and visit local farm tour where you can see the Inyambo cattle. Thereafter, exit the park to connect to Volcanoes National Park with an en-route lunch. Dinner and overnight will be at Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking, Visit Karisoke Research Center
You will have breakfast early at your lodge and your guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a briefing from the RDB officials at 7AM, and after your briefing set off for the gorilla trek in the forest in search of gorillas, which can take about 2-6 hours or more depending on the location of the gorilla group. This experience of gorilla trekking is a once in a lifetime adventure in Volcanoes national park. Once you have located a gorilla family you will be allowed 1 hour with the gorillas.
In the afternoon after lunch, head out with the children for a Karisoke Research Center where you will have a chance to visit the Dian Fossey Museum and learn more about her work and contribution to the conservation of gorillas in Volcanoes National Park . Return for dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu, Afternoon Boat Cruise
After breakfast, your guide will drive you to Gisenyi town at the shores of Lake Kivu. After your lunch at the lodge, head out for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Kivu. Enjoy scenic views and a relaxing time at the shores as you enjoy the breeze.

Day 6: Optional Coffee Tour, Departure
